The Wondrous Worlds of

n the The Sword of Shannara, the Druid Allanon spoke of a world destroyed by cataclysm and the dark excesses of man that over thousands of years eventually gave rise to Shannara's Four Lands. It was hinted that civilized man, using technology vastly more awesome than he could control, laid waste to the world until it altered the very fabric of its geography. Allanon called that time period—when Man almost lost everything—the Great Wars.

Then Terry wrote a series of contemporary fantasy novels, the Word & Void trilogy, where the forces of Evil attempt to thwart the intentions of Good in modern day America—to bring about armageddon. Fans for years afterward asked if the Word & Void books were the ultimate prequel to the Shannara series, and for years Terry would not answer definitively.

He has now. With the release of Armageddon's Children—Book One of the Genesis of Shannara trilogy—Terry has set out on what will assuredly be his boldest and most difficult adventure yet. Set eighty years after the events of Angel Fire East—the last Word & Void novel—Armageddon's Children is the beginning of the end for Man and his contemporary world. For the Demons, servants of the Void, have gained the upper hand against humanity and the Word, and pollution, disease, and war ruin the Earth. In this new novel, the Great Wars Allanon spoke of to Shea Ohmsford have begun.

The Genesis of Shannara will incorporate several stories—the first being the Genesis of Shannara trilogy, which details the time of the Great Wars. Books taking place after Book Three in the Genesis trilogy will involve the aftermath of the Great Wars when Mankind and Elvenkind reemerge into a world drastically changed. Terry will leap centuries in between stories until he brings history up to the time of Galaphile and the First Druid Order.

In the meantime, the world will never be the same again.

  • End of Chapter 25
The website has been receiving a lot of mail (more than 200 emails and private messages now) concerning The Gypsy Morph and the end of Chapter 25—page 285 in the US edition and page 283 in the UK edition.

The chapter ends in mid-thought, with no punctuation.

Terry planned this. It is in the original manuscript and it is in every other book out there. It is not a misprint or typo or error.

I repeat: It is not an error.

For those who want to know exactly what happened to that character, Terry asks you to go back and re-read the last few paragraphs leading up to the last sentence. It should become apparent what happened to that character. If it does not become apparent, feel free to visit the Forum where it is being discussed right now and learn the fate of that character and why the chapter ends as it does: The End of Chapter 25.
